Summer Trip 2008

We had a great trip to Spain. It is a bit far (12 hours without traffic - wouldn't that be nice...), but I was able to convince Kristyn to let us drive, so we could see Switzerland and France on the way. It was worth it... at least to me. First stop was at Lake Geneva. Then we went on to Barcelona for a couple days of city trekking. The next leg of the trip was definitely the kids favorite - a villa near the coast about an hour and a half south of Barcelona. Our demanding schedule there included waking up, swimming, eating breakfast, swimming, going to the beach, eating lunch, swimming more at the beach, then back to the villa for dinner and swimming 'til sunset. Oh yeah, we also watched some olympics... Just when we though everyone was finally tired of swimming, the suits would come back on and everyone would splash back in. It was really a precious week for us to be together as a family, laugh, tell stories, and play hard (well, not really that hard - but undistracted) together. After a week, Ike and I were ready for a break from the sun and some big mountains, and we found them back in Switzerland in the Swiss Oberland area at the base of the Jungfrau. After a couple typical rainy and cloudy days, we were somehow lucky enough to have a whole day without a cloud in the sky. The favorite there was the warm apfelstrudel and the north face of the Eiger - what a mountain. We watched an IMAX show about the Eiger first, so it just came to life.
